The Light on Top of the Mountain (Jam Game)

Content warning: This game deals with the topic of death of a family member. In addition, though it is only described, not drawn, at one point the player must use a knife to draw blood from themselves (note, you only draw a small amount of blood from your hand. This is a non-fatal injury likened to a flesh wound).

A short point and click adventure game made for Adventure Jam 2023. Please note that there is no music or sound effects.

Instructions:

• Using the mouse, left click in the crt window to advance through different screens.
• When in the game, you can click N,W,S,E around the compass rose to move around. The WASD and directional keys also will move you.
• You can search a spot by clicking the "Search" button. If there is an item in that spot, searching will pick it up for you. Question marks on the map are points of interest, including item locations.
• The map will have stick figure icons for NPCs. You can talk to an NPC and try to say different key terms to them. If they say something to you, and a word is in braces like [this], you can learn that key term. Different key terms can yield different results from each NPC.
• The menu bar at the top of the screen lets you switch between views, such as the "Items" view and the "Map" view.
• You can change the crt's monochrome color using the "C" and "V" keys to cycle through them.
• Select an item from the item screen to equip it. Select the "Use Item" button to use the item at that location. Some items disappear after use.
• In the "hub" area, there are several places you can go. Use the mouse and hover over the locations text, then click to go to another area.
• If you are stuck, the altar at the end of the game requires multiple items used one after another in order to progress. There is also a hint file that will give you answers to item locations and usage.
